Here is a list of top 10 advanced car technologies which
could be a reality soon in the near future, let’s say by the year 2020.
1 Autonomous Vehicle
It is not a fully autonomous vehicle. By 2020 fully
autonomous vehicles will be on roads but only in certain circumstances. Cruise
control is now available in some cars which is a small step to fully autonomous
cars.
2 Driver Override Systems
This also relates to autonomous technology, but it’s
different because the car actively disregards your commands and makes its own
decisions. Nowadays there are some cars that will stop if somebody fails to
apply the brakes. But by 2020 we shall see the cars applying the brakes even if
the driver has the gas pedal floored. The rapid increase in sensor technology
will force a shift in priority for the cars.
3 Biometric Vehicle Access
In the recent years, there is a switch from keys to keyless
entry and start will be followed by a switch to key-fob-less entry and start.
In the Future we will be able to unlock and start our cars only by our
fingerprint (or maybe your eyeball, but fingerprint readers are more likely
than retina scanners). It is like some of the mobile phones which have
Fingerprint Sensor to unlock them. It’s Exactly the same concept.
4 Comprehensive Vehicle Tracking
Insurance companies and some state governments are already
planning about fees based on kilometers driven by a driver. By 2020 insurance
companies will offer a reduced rate for drivers that agree to the full tracking
of their behavior. This technology might remains voluntary, but likely in
future insurance companies will require comprehensive driver tracking.
5 Active Window Displays
Head-Up Display (HUD) technology, known as a transparent
display that represents data without requiring users to look anywhere else from
the windshield. But as good as HUD is in 2015, by 2020 active glass capable of
displaying vibrant images will be seen. It is a navigation system that actually
highlights the next turn through the windshield as we reach there.
6 Remote Vehicle Shutdown
This technology already exists with OnStar using it to
maximize advantage regularly. Recently the telematics company has shut down
hundreds of stolen cars, to end police chases quickly and with little drama
(though most drivers still don’t know it can be done, even drivers with
OnStar…).
7 Active Health Monitoring
Ford Motor Company has previewed the idea of seatbelt or
steering wheel sensors that track vital statistics, though with the rapid
development of wearable technology means most cars will just be wirelessly
paired with these devices like mobile phones. Now these are combined with basic autonomous technology and
we will get a car that can pull over and call paramedics when the driver gets a
heart attack.
8 Four-Cylinder Supercar
Ford launched their all-new GT supercar using a twin-turbo V6.
On the other hand, it may rub traditional performance on the wrong way, a
lightweight V6 making over 600 horsepower will offer world-beating performance,
especially if it’s got a light, carbon-fiber body to pull around. By 2020,
there will be a first full-fledged car with 200-plus mph with a four-cylinder
engine.
9 Smart/Personalized In-Car Marketing
Nowadays Ads are shown on facebook, twitter etc. according
to our behavior. By 2020, cars would be fully connected to the internet.
Hopefully, these will manifest as an opt-in feature, but also they will give
personalized, location-based ads in car’s display.
10 Reconfigurable Body Panels
Nowadays, SUVs has seen increased demand, while truck sales
have also increased. In the near future, an SUV with lightweight body panels
and advanced motors that recall the roof and side glass into the lower body
panels can come, which means a truck and SUV can come in one vehicle.
