Mahindra SsangYong Rexton to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo

The all-new SsangYong Rexton is all set to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo, which will commence in February. It is to be sold with the Mahindra badging in the Indian market, retaining the name ‘Rexton’.

The SsangYong brand has been around for a few years now and with the new premium SUV, it is going to make its debut in the Indian market. The fact that building a brand would need a significant investment of time and money, has urged them to introduce their first SUV under the banner of the popular Mahindra and Mahindra.

The 2018 SsangYong Rexton is expected to be placed exactly above the existing flagship SUV, Mahindra XUV500 in the company’s portfolio. The SUV is already on sale in the global market and the Indian-spec model will be largely similar to it. It is expected to get some tweaks visually to be in-line with the Mahindra’s design language. Among the changes could be a new grille with the chrome border and projector headlights along with a differently designed alloy wheels.

Developed under the Mahindra-SsangYong banner, the new Rexton is set to get a premium cabin loaded with comfort and convenience features. The interior is expected to receive some makeovers over the global model. A 9.2-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with the compatibility of  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7.0-inch LCD instrument console, Nappa leather upholstery and much more are to be present inside.

The Indian-spec Rexton SUV is most likely to be powered by the 2.2-litre diesel engine that is capable enough to produce a maximum power output of 187 bhp against a peak torque of 420 Nm. The engine is to be matched to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The SsangYong Rexton is expected to be priced starting at Rs. 24 lakh (ex-showroom), as the company is looking to undercut Toyota Fortuner by a significant margin. The car is most likely to go down for sale during the festive season this year.
