Ford India has officially unveiled its much awaited compact
utility vehicle, the Freestyle. The all-new Ford Freestyle sits under the
EcoSport compact SUV. The vehicle gets a new Dragon petrol engine with a new
gearbox and a revised suspension setup for a sportier performance.
Visually, the Ford Freestyle gets a unique grille with a
dynamic, three-dimensional mesh. The vehicle gets blacked-out high contrast
headlamps which are complemented by fog lamp bezel, which creates a commanding
expression. The inclined windshield and a sculpted rear fascia with unique tail
lamps gives the Freestyle a sportier stance. The newly unveiled compact utility
vehicle will also feature Ford’s in-car infotainment system, SYNC 3 with a
6.5-inch touchscreen which allows drivers to control their entertainment and
their connected smartphone with voice commands. The SYNC 3 system is also Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.
Mechanically, the new Ford Freestyle is powered by a new
1.2-litre TiVCT petrol engine which generates about 93bhp of power and 120Nm of
torque. The diesel version on the other hand continues to be powered by the
1.5-litre TDCi engine which generates 97bhp of power and 215Nm of torque. In
terms of safety, the vehicle gets ABS with EBD, up to six airbags and Active
Rollover Prevention (ARP). Combined with Electronic Stability Control, the ARP
system will be able to automatically detect potential rollover situations by
applying brakes to individual tyres and decrease engine torque.
When launched in April, the Freestyle will be positioned
below the EcoSport as the entry-level UV. Prices are expected to be on par with
its rivals like the Hyundai i20 Active, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Honda WR-V.
