Upcoming Cars from Tata Motors

Tata Motors, the popular Indian passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturer, is finally coming of age. Call it the effect of the JLR acquisition, the magic of Chief Designer Pratap Bose or both, one simply can’t ignore the pace at which Tata is progressing. At this year’s Expo, the company showcased some of its upcoming products, which are expected to launch in 2018-2019. From the looks of it, these upcoming new Tata cars have all the right ingredients to become a sales success. Come, let’s take a look at all of the upcoming Tata cars in India.

Tata X45X (Maruti Baleno Rival)

Tata showcased the X45X, a design study that will spawn the Maruti Baleno rival, at the Auto Expo 2018. While the upcoming hatchback is still some stages away from entering production, we are hopeful of a late-2019 launch. The X45X will be electrification-ready and will also meet the upcoming BS6 norms. Easily one the most anticipated upcoming Tata cars in India, the X45X will likely have a slightly lower price than the Baleno and the Hyundai i20. Expect the car to offer a long list of features along with enough interior space for five occupants.

Tata H5X

Even the Tata H5X concept made its debut at the Auto Expo 2018. The H5X will give birth to a premium SUV that will be underpinned by an Indianised version of the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L8 platform. The production-spec model will have a re-tuned version of the 2.0-litre Multijet Turbo Diesel engine that powers the Jeep Compass. The company has already confirmed that the production model will look a lot like this ravishing concept you see here. Honestly, we just can’t wait for the launch of this Tata SUV.

Tata Tigor Electric

Production of the Tigor EV is already underway at the Sanand facility as Tata Motors has bagged the order to supply EVs to the Government of India. Also, the company has confirmed it will launch the Tigor electric variant by mid-2019. Specifications aren’t known at the moment but the Tigor Electric will get its power from an electric drivetrain system sourced from Electra EV. Visually, the car will look slightly different from the regular variants due to new badges and stickers.

Tata Tiago Electric

Even the Tiago will soon get an electric drivetrain! The upcoming Tiago EV will share its powerplant with the Tigor EV and is likely to launch alongside its sibling. Even with this car, the only visual difference will arise out of new badges and stickers. Details on the range and peak torque are unavailable at the moment. However, speculations abound that the car will benefit from a maximum power of 40 bhp.

Tata Tigor JTP

Tata Motors, in partnership with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives, showcased the Tata Tigor JTP at the Auto Expo 2018. The JTP is basically an upcoming performance-oriented model that borrows the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon. This motor pumps out a maximum power of 110 PS along with a peak torque of 150 Nm. The car gets performance-tuned suspension and gearbox. Definitely among the hottest upcoming Tata cars in India, this one.

Tata Tiago JTP

Even the Tiago hatchback will get the JTP treatment. Akin to its compact sedan sibling, the Tiago will get the Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine along with revisions to its suspension. Visually, the car will look sportier due to a sporty body kit and a jazzed-up interior. Both the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP will likely launch by the end of this year. Prices are expected to start around Rs 7 lakh.

Tata Nexon AMT

Tata Motors showcased the AMT-equipped Nexon at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2018. From the looks of it, the Tata Nexon AMT is hardly a few weeks away from its launch. The AMT will be available on both the fuel variants, Petrol and Diesel, and will offer the Creep and Kickdown features. The AMT will likely launch only on XZA (top-end) and XTA (mid-level) trims. Expect a price premium of roughly Rs 50,000 over the corresponding manual transmission models.
