After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki has announced prices for
the new S-Cross which starts at Rs 8.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new
model is available in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Maruti has
also introduced it in 5 colour options - nexa blue, pearl arctic white,
caffeine brown, premium silver and granite grey. Along with fresh cosmetic
upgrades, the vehicle also gets Smart Hybrid technology.
Under the hood, the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is powered by
a 1.3-litre DDiS 200 with Smart Hybrid technology to generate 90bhp of power
and 200Nm of torque. The engine is limited to a five-speed manual transmission.
This time around, the Indian car manufacturer has included new features like idle-stop
start, torque assist, brake energy regeneration system and a gearshift
indicator. The older 1.6-litre diesel engine is not available with the new
model.
As for the interiors, the new model will get a satin chrome
accent finish, a soft touch dashboard and well-coordinated seat fabric designs.
The new model gets a piano black central panel and leather finish arm-rest for
that premium feel. The company will also offer an intuitive touchscreen
infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the upcoming new
model. The exterior features sharp LED projector headlamps which are housed
neatly with the daylight running lamps (DRLs). The vehicle gets chrome on the
grille with vertical stacks, while the rear gets redesigned LED tail lamps. The
sculpted hood design gives it an upright masculine stance.
The new S-Cross variants are priced (ex-showroom, Delhi) as
follows –
Sigma – Rs 8.49 lakhs
Delta – Rs 9.39 lakhs
Zeta – Rs 9.98 lakhs
Alpha – Rs 11.29 lakhs
In terms of the budget range, this is the highest point
before the D-segment begins. It is here that Maruti Suzuki wants to make its presence
felt and sensing big things ahead, it launched the S-Cross in 2015 and with it
a premium chain called Nexa. However, while Nexa has become a huge success, the
S-Cross has not done too well and this update is a major effort for numbers.
The S-Cross’ price range has put it smack in the middle of
India’s new plum car buying segment. This price point is where a lot of the
compact SUVs, C-segment sedans and even some Premium hatchbacks.
