According to a report by Overdrive, Tata Motors is working
on six all-new vehicles for the market. But the most interesting one is going
to be a premium hatchback — one that will be positioned against the Maruti
Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20.
Codenamed X451, the hatchback will be based on AMP (Advanced
Modular Platform) but isn’t a redesigned Vista or Bolt. It’s reported to be
made from scratch, and will feature a new look outside, a premium interior, and
possibly new engines, too.
On the outside, as shown by the artist’s rendition, it will
have sleek headlamps, a well-proportioned silhouette, and more aggressive
styling up front. On the inside, things like a stick-out infotainment unit,
rear AC vents, and a multi-layered layout will be present.
Engine details are scarce at the moment, but the 1.2-liter
turbocharged petrol from the Bolt and Tata’s upcoming 1.5-liter diesel engine (for
the Nexon) are possible choices.
The report further continues that a sedan based on the X451
will also be made. It will sit above the Zest, and will effectively be the
replacement to the Indigo/Manza range. Other four products include two new MUVs
and two SUVs. The latter will be made using Land Rover’s help and the
Freelander 2’s platform.
It’s too soon to discuss the launch dates considering Tata
has the Hexa, the Kite 5 compact sedan, and the Nexon compact SUV lined up. The
publication mentions that the six new products will come somewhere between 2017
and 2020.
